Perioperative Family Support


Supporting mostly caregivers and staff

Minimum Age: 18
Minimum Commitment: Weekly 3-hour shift for at least 6 months in a row.
Shifts: Weekday Mornings and Afternoons (between 9am and 4pm). No Evenings or Weekends.
Description: Perioperative Family Support volunteers work independently or in pairs to interact with families of surgery patients. They provide comfort, direction, and continuous updates in order to improve the patient and family experience. Volunteers may also gain knowledge and insight into the medical field - specifically pre-operative and post-operative care. Maturity and experience providing support to others in difficult situations is crucial to this role. This role will continue to change based on patient, family, and staff needs. 

Physical Demands and Requirements:
Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly for lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, etc.
Walk/Stand majority of shift. Stooping may be required frequently
Wear required Personal Protective Equipment per hospital policy
Ability to take directions, be flexible, and work independently.
Demonstrate self-motivation and initiative with good problem-solving skills
Ability to understand and communicate fluently in English
